Who am I?
I came to spread betting with no previous experience in May 2007. My background is in graphic design which is strangely where I was introduced to spread betting. To this day I still work passionately in design but counter balance this with a healthy interest in financial markets and the economy.

So how did I get started spread betting?
I stumbled into spread betting purely by accident. Working with various clients I get the opportunity to learn about different businesses and how they function. This has ranged from the construction industry, healthcare and even the defence forces. A key element in any design process is the ability to understand your customer and their business in order to deliver the best experience.

One such job was a spread betting firm and with them I had the opportunity of re designing their spread betting platform and developing online support training. Not knowing anything about spread betting I quickly became intrigued.

From there I set up a demonstration account and bought a few books. My philosophy was that if I could double the money in the demo account I would invest for real. In a demonstration account you get 10,000 to trade with. In my naivety I thought it would be easy to double the account but this proved a longer process than I had initially anticipated. A demonstration account allows you 10,000 fun money and generally doesn’t have the full functionality (delayed prices) but gives you a good start and thought me some crucial lessons with none of the risk.

Skip on a few months, a few books and another demo account and I finally managed to achieve what I set out to do. I made 20,000 from 10,000 (OK I would have also lost 10,000 on the first failed account but that’s the benefit of the demo account, all the fun and none of the risk).

In those few months I learned a lot about myself and the emotions that run through you as you trade. I found the demonstration accounts invaluable as I made all the basic mistakes of someone starting out but didn’t have to risk any capital.

So what is this blog about?
Trading2k.com is what it states. It’s my blog about my trades and the ups and downs I go through as I trade 2,000. The site is my personal keep me straight diary. There is the temptation as a beginner spread bettor to stray from the rules. This site will hopefully help me document my trades and the reasons I made them. As I learn new techniques, read new books and hopefully trade better I will add to the site and pass on what ever wisdom I acquire.
